Following Jesus Sermon Series
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
Part 1
Intro: For the first Sunday in the new year, I would like to share my vision and my burden for our church.
I cannot think of anything greater than Following Jesus.
I started following Jesus 48 years ago when I was just 4 years old.
I have never regretted it one single time.
Not once have I looked for an alternative.
Never have I looked back over that last nearly half a century and wish I’d chosen a different path.
In this verse, we see three key truths:
I. The Sovereign's Distinction – “My sheep hear my voice…”
There is something very unique about the voice of God.
And let’s be clear – the voice of Jesus Christ IS the very voice of God.
When Jesus spoke, it was God speaking.
Jesus’ name is actually THE WORD. – meaning the Word of God.
The Word became flesh. Jesus was the human essence of God’s Word and God’s voice.
Jesus made several references to the simple fact that the sheep know the voice of their shepherd.
· 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
· 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
· 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
· 16 …and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
The first mention of the word VOICE in the Bible was the voice of God.
· Genesis 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
The Distinction of His voice in Genesis 3:8 was it demonstrated the PRESENCE of God.
But the first actual record of the voice of God was in Genesis 1:3.
· Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
The Distinction of His voice in Genesis 1:3 was that it demonstrated the POWER of God.
We cannot begin to imagine the power of that voice!
Psalms 29
· 3 The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters.
· 4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.
· 5 The voice of the LORD breaketh the cedars; yea, the LORD breaketh the cedars of Lebanon.
· 7 The voice of the LORD divideth the flames of fire.
· 8 The voice of the LORD shaketh the wilderness; the LORD shaketh the wilderness of Kadesh.
· 9 The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.
One of the arrogant responses of Pharaoh was:
· Exodus 5:2 And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
The Distinction of His voice in Exodus 5:2 was that it demonstrated the PREEMINENCE of God.
One of the key factors of a successful Christian is understanding the importance of discerning the voice of the Lord!
Hearing God’s voice immediately!
Being able to hear the voice of the shepherd amongst all the other voices is crucial!
I am shocked at the impersonators and pretenders that have succeeded in mimicking the voice of the Lord.
I’m even more shocked at the lack of discernment in so-called Christians to distinguish it.
II. The Shepherd’s Detection – “…and I know them…”
Jesus made it clear to the Jews that had encircled him in verse 24 that not everybody belongs to Him.
He said in verse 26 “Ye are not of my sheep…”
Knowing the voice of the Savior is important.
But the greatest thing is when He knows you!
This has always been a fascinating concept.
An Omniscient God making the statement, “I know them…”
· Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
He knows who is saved.
Jesus told them in verse 14 - I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
Your false profession isn’t fooling God.
You might be confused about your salvation, but He’s not.
You might doubt your salvation, but He doesn’t.
He knows His sheep.
He knows His sheep.
And He knew he had more on the way!
· 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
Jesus made multiple references during his ministry of those that WOULD get saved.
· John 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
He knows who is saved and who is not saved.
And He knows who will get saved and who won’t get saved.
But He still gives every man, woman, boy and girl a choice.
His Foreknowledge doesn’t negate your Free Choice.
· John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
Jesus said in John 5:40 “And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”
· John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
He knows who is going to get saved.
Believing that doesn’t make me a Calvinist.
That just makes Him God!
He knows the end from the beginning.
III. The Sheep’s Direction – “…and they follow me:”
I’m going to say this as kindly as I can.
He doesn’t follow us; we follow Him.
He is the Lord. He is the Master.
He charts the course.
He sets the direction.
He doesn’t ask us where we want to go; He tells us where to go.
· 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
He is the leader! We are the followers!
· 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
· 5 And a stranger will they not follow,
Preacher! I wanted to hear something deep this morning!
I got something deep right here – if you’re one of His sheep, you will follow Jesus!
And if you are one of His sheep, a stranger you will not follow!
Conclusion: This series and the theme for this year is simple: we follow Christ.
That should be our desire.
That should be our primary concern.
Every minute of every day, we should be busy doing one thing: following Christ.
Our theme song should be – “Where He Leads Me I Will Follow”
Following Jesus Series Series - Part 2
The Invitation
Matthew 4:18-22
Intro: The depth of this phrase “Follow me” is fascinating.
To think that God became flesh and then honored us with the amazing opportunity to be with Him.
I. It is a Personal Invitation (you)
This idea of Following Jesus is a personal decision.
“Follow Me” is an imperative statement with the subject as an understood “you.”
Everybody that Jesus ever encountered, He invited them to follow Him.
When Jesus said, “Follow me,” He was talking to you. He was talking to me.
In Matthew 4, this invitation was directed at Simon and Andrew, and also to James and John.
· 18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
· 19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.
· 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
· 21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
· 22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
In Matthew 9, this invitation was directed at Matthew the tax collector.
· Matthew 9:9 And as Jesus passed forth from thence, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the receipt of custom: and he saith unto him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
II. It is a Peculiar Invitation– (follow)
The invitation from Jesus to follow Him is peculiar for several reasons.
He wasn’t looking for a crowd of people to fall in behind Him to form a crowd.
He wasn’t looking for groupies and a fan club.
He was very specific about what He meant when He said “follow me.”
It was looking for “FOLLOWERS.”
Jesus used that word interchangeably with the word “DISCIPLES.”
NOTE: The word FOLLOW in Matthew 8:22 is the Greek word akoloutheo (akolootheo) which means: to follow one who precedes, join him as his attendant, accompany him; to join one as a disciple, become or be his disciple; side with his party
A. It is a Peculiar Invitation because of its Timing
When a person give you or me an invitation, the proper protocol is to give us time to prepare.
There is usually a card or text message or email with the date of the event, the location, and all the details.
This invitation from Jesus is peculiar in its timing simply because there is an immediate invitation with an expectation of an immediate response.
The first time we find a record of the Lord Jesus saying “Follow me” in the Bible, it is in Matthew 4:19.
It is a different Greek word for FOLLOW than all the other times we find that word.
It is the Greek word deute dyoo’-teh which means: come hither, come here, come, interjection, come!, come now!
Jesus didn’t stand around for days or weeks or months waiting.
Notice the immediate response to His Invitation in Matthew 4:
· 20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.
· 22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.
He didn’t give them an opportunity to finish what they were working on.
He didn’t give them the chance to tie up loose ends.
He didn’t give them time to even say goodbye to their friends and family.
When Jesus extended an invitation to follow Him, it was sudden and He expected an immediate decision.
Notice these examples in Matthew 8:19-22:
· 19 And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
· 20 And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
· 21 And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
· 22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.23 And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
B. It is a Peculiar Invitation because of the Terms
1. The terms involve SACRIFICE. - Mark 10 - The Rich Young Ruler
· 17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
· 18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
· 19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
· 20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
· 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
· 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
2. The terms involve SELFLESSNESS.
· Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
3. The terms involve SUFFERING.
Matthew 10
· 37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
· 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
III. It is a Priceless Invitation – (Follow me)
I’ve had a lot of invitations in my life.
· ILLUSTRATION: The invitation to eat a meal with Donald Trump on September 12, 2016.
I believe we can all agree that a personal invitation from Jesus Christ is priceless.
To be able to spend time with God in the flesh!
To have the opportunity to hear the Word spoken by the Word. Wow!
To have the perfect example to study and learn from about what it means to be a Christian.
To be able to listen to Him pray.
To be able to ask Him questions.
To have the distinct privilege of a front row seat to some of the greatest miracles of all time.
To be able to eat with Him; walk with Him; sit around and talk with Him.
We have not only been invited to follow the greatest Person ever, but He asked personally asked us to follow Him.
The Lord of all Glory is extending an invitation to you today as well.
He’s asking you – YOU – to follow Him.
Following Jesus - Part 3
The Inspiration
John 6
Intro: We have already looked at the Introduction to this series. The last message was the Invitation.
Today we will examine the INSPIRATION.
· Why would anybody walk away from their life and follow Jesus?
· Why would someone forfeit their life dreams to follow Jesus?
· Why have thousands of people dropped out of secular college to follow God’s call to service?
· Why have millions of Christians down through the centuries been willing to be martyred just to Follow Jesus?
I can think of a lot of quite a few reasons, but today we are going to focus on just one.
Before we get to it, we need to look at the text to better understand the significance of this compelling reason.
I. The Controversies that are Abundant
Following Jesus is a life of faith. It is also a life of controversy.
There are going to be decisions that you are forced to make that you didn’t have to make before.
There are people you will have to walk away from in order to follow Jesus.
It’s not complicated; if you Follow Jesus, and your friends do not, you’re forced to choose.
· There are going to be things you hear that you’ve never heard before.
· There will be demands made of you and your flesh will not want to comply.
· There will be commands given that your flesh will not want to obey.
· There will be doctrines preached that a carnal mind will not comprehend.
· There will be a price to pay that the earthly man will think is unreasonable.
· There will hardly be a day when you’re not forced to make difficult decisions.
In this chapter, we find a group of people that decided to Follow Jesus.
· John 6:2 “And a great multitude followed him…”
There were 5,000 men besides women and children. (Matt. 14:21)
These people had witnessed unbelievable miracles.
In verses 1-14, they saw Jesus feed everyone with five loaves and two fishes.
In verses 15-21, Jesus walked on the water in the midst of a storm. (Matt. 14)
His power was so widespread that people came to him just to touch his garment and be healed.
Jesus had accomplished what many would consider the pinnacle of success.
He had a huge following.
· They went out of their way – vs. 1, 2, 22, 25
· They publicly confessed a faith in Jesus – vs. 14
· They were interested in doing the works of God – vs. 28
· They were hungry for the bread – vs. 34
· They stayed and asked questions trying to understand.
I said this already - Following Jesus is a life of faith.
It will ALWAYS be a life of Faith.
There will never be a day in the life of a Christian when you will understand it all.
He will say things that you don’t understand.
He will ask you to do things that are hard.
He will want you to do things that will offend your flesh.
NOTE: Jesus knew before he said these things that they wouldn’t understand.
He knew before He said it that they would thing it was a hard saying.
He knew before He said it that they would be offended.
· 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?
· Jesus didn’t re-word it.
· Jesus didn’t say it better, or nicer, or clearer, or less offensive.
· He knew when He said it that it would offend them.
· He knew when He said it they would walk away.
· He knew He was about to completely dismantle His entire following.
· He knew before He preached this message that all by twelve of them would leave during the message.
He knew they would walk away, and He said it anyway.
He preached it anyway.
He preached a controversial, hard, offensive message anyway.
He didn’t cater to them; He didn’t coddle them; He didn’t customize His message to keep them.
TRUTH: One of the distinctions of the followers of Jesus are those that can handle the controversy.
Those that endure the conflicts; the hard sayings; the parts that offend the ear and the flesh.
It’s a good sign when your HUNGER for the truth is greater than your HURT from the truth.
It’s a great thing when your CONVICTION is greater than the CONTROVERSY.
II. The Choices that are Available
In this chapter, we find two groups of people:
1. Those that Reject Christ
2. Those that Receive Christ
NOTE: Just because Jesus knew who would follow and who wouldn’t didn’t alleviate their choice.
· 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.
Jesus acknowledged that MANY will choose the broad way that leadeth to destruction.
But just because everyone WILL NOT be saved does not mean that every one CANNOT be saved!
Three times, Jesus referred to the fact that “no man can come to me” except the Father draw him. Vs. 37, 44, 65
· John 12:32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
· Revelation 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
The Father is drawing; the Spirit is drawing; the Bride is drawing.
The problem is not that the Father is not DRAWING; the problem is man is not BELIEVING.
SEE the connection in verse 35 - And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
It is man’s choice to come once the Father has drawn Him.
· John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
It is man’s choice to believe once the Father has revealed Him.
vs. 36, 40, 47, 64
READ John 5:37 - 47
NOTE VERSE 40 “…ye will not come to me that ye might have life.”
There is not one person that stands before God at the Great White Throne Judgment that can blame God for not saving them if they wanted to be saved.
Not once person will be sent to Hell that did not have the choice
After Salvation, comes the choice about Discipleship.
When it comes to Following Jesus, everyone has two choices; follow or don’t.
Jesus gives every one of us that choice.
In verses 66 and 67, we find two groups of people.
1. Those that Forsake Christ
2. Those that Follow Christ
What was it about this group that followed Christ that made them different from the ones that forsook Him?
That brings us to our third point.
III. The Confession that is Affirming
Jesus looked at His remaining twelve disciples, and asked a simple question: Will ye also go away?
Peter’s answer was powerful.
· John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
The multitudes followed Jesus because they were interested in His Miracles.6:2; 26
Peter was interested in His Message.
The multitudes were intrigued by His Works.
Peter was intrigued by His Words.
The multitude was driven by a desire for Temporal Bread.
Peter was interested in Eternal Bread.
Jesus had just told them in verse 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
Those of us that are Following Jesus understand the IMPORTANCE OF THE WORDS OF LIFE.
Two thousand years ago, the driving force behind His TRUE followers was THE WORDS OF ETERNAL LIFE.
John the Baptist said of Jesus: John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God:
When Jesus prayed in John 17, He acknowledged this powerful truth.
· 6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
· 7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
· 8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
In 2025, what separates those that are Following Jesus is a passion for THE WORDS OF LIFE.
The reason that multitudes of followers are walking away today is because of the WORDS OF LIFE.
2 Timothy 4
· 2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
· 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
· 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
What role does the Words of Life have in the life of those that Follow Jesus?
Philippians 2
· 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
· 16 Holding forth the word of life;
What is it that allows us to SHINE AS LIGHTS IN THE WORLD? Holding forth THE WORD OF LIFE.
Jesus WAS and IS the Word of Life.
· 1 John 1:1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
Following Jesus - Part 4
The Intricacies
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Intro: Following Jesus has two distinct categories.
1. Following Jesus in a General Sense
2. Following Jesus in a Specific Sense
There are two key truths – Following Jesus, and then learning what it means to Follow the Leadership of God in your life.
This is where it gets complicated.
Actually, it’s not complicated; it is intricate.
There is a process by which God leads His children.
It starts with a commitment to Follow Jesus.
But how do we know the details of what that looks like?
For example:
CHURCH ATTENDANCE
In Hebrews you are commanded to go to church.
Hebrews 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
But which church? We can’t go to just any church. We need specifics.
You need God to direct you to the RIGHT church – not just to A church.
PRAYER
Throughout the Bible, we are commanded to pray.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 Pray without ceasing.
Luke 18:1 And he spake a parable unto them [to this end], that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
But how do we pray?
Romans 8 says we don’t even know what to prayfor.
Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought:
James says our prayers are not being answered because ask amiss.
James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.
GIVING
We know we are supposed to give.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
But how much do you give?
2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, [so let him give]; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
How much is that? What determines that amount?
Who do you give to? Where do you give?
How do we know how much to increase?
WITNESSING
We know we are commanded to give the Gospel to every creature.
But where do we start? How do missionaries know which country to go to?
The ANSWER to all of these questions:
God actually uses several process to lead His people in a SPECIFIC way.
Let’s look at them. They all work in sync with one another.
I. The Praying of the Saints
A praying Christian will be in tune to the specific instructions of following God.
We don’t know what we need to do, so we pray.
James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all [men] liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
God will communicate His will for your life if you are praying.
Look at Acts 10:9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
II. The Prompting of the Spirit
Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Luke 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,
The intricate workings of God in your life hinges on one key factor: being Spirit-filled.
A Spirit-filled believer will know the particulars; the details; the intricate workings.
That is the key.
The Holy Spirit will communicate very specific instructions.
It started with Peter praying in verse 9.
But by verse 19, the Spirit was giving specific instructions.
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
If you are not Spirit-filled and Spirit led, you can easily get out of God’s Will.
Proverbs 3
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
NOTE: Paul on the Road to Damascus asked the key question: Lord, what wilt thou have me to do?
God called Paul to bear his name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel. (Acts 9:15)
But look at Acts 16:6-10.
The Holy Spirit intervened and they were FORBIDDEN to preach the Word in Asia. – vs. 6
The Spirit SUFFERED them not to go into Bithynia. – vs 7
They were Following God in a General Sense; but then God through the leadership of the Holy Spirit guided them in a Specific Sense.
III. The Preaching of the Servant
I find it fascinating that God spoke to Peter through prayer and through the leadership of the Holy Spirit.
And this whole transaction was to maneuver Peter into the house of Cornelius so that he could preach.
SEE – Acts 10:34-43
Notice the emphasis on the preaching:
Peter spoke of “the word” – vs. 36, 37
He talked about the word being “published” – vs. 37
He use the word “witness” in vs. 39 and 43
Peter used the word PREACH twice – vs. 36 and 42
I also find it amazing that an angel of God spoke directly to Cornelius in verse 3-6.
But that angel didn’t tell Cornelius how to be saved.
He told Cornelius to go get the preacher – “…he will tell thee what thou oughtest to do.” – vs. 6
God ordained for the message to be declared by the preacher – not by angels.
Cornelius acknowledged that they were all present and ready to hear the message from God THROUGH Peter.
30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
God uses the preacher to declare God’s will to the Sinner.
God also uses the preacher to declare God’s specific will to the Saints.
God uses the preaching of His Word to give specific instructions to the people of God.
Jeremiah 3:15 And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
IV. The Precepts of the Scriptures
Psalms 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
God will NEVER lead a believer to do ANYTHING that goes contrary to Scriptures.
It is impossible.
If you have a desire or “feel led” to do something that is unbiblical, it is not the leadership of God.
David acknowledged this fact in Psalm 23.
Psalms 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
David said it again like this in several places in Psalms:
Psalms 5:8 Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
Psalms 25:5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
Psalms 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
There are several key takeaways from this message.
If you are SERIOUS about being in God’s perfect will, there’s more to it than just saying, I’m Following Jesus.
God wants to direct every aspect of your life.
That will require these four things:
1. Develop a consistent prayer life.
2. Discern the voice of the Holy Spirit.
3. Delight in the preaching and teaching of God’s man
4. Discover the treasures of God’s Word
Do these four things, and you’ll never get out of God’s Will.
